Custom Speakers, a Teen Toy Challenge Winner, and a Successful Quilt Show

Vol 36, Issue #05 May 2026

Ever wondered what goes into building your own speakers? Marc Collins walked members through his custom builds, from designing cabinets in SketchUp and cutting 3D-printed router templates to ironing on veneer and a side-by-side listening test that showed exactly where the extra effort pays off. The Teen Toy Challenge also has a winner: Brittany Joyner’s catapult, which launched a ping pong ball straight into the front row. Eitan shares how the club raised nearly $1,000 for the toy builds at the Quilters’ Show, and the minutes welcome new members, announce a tool estate sale on May 30, and preview the May 21 joinery night on biscuits, dowels and pocket holes. Rounding things out: Bob Bilyeu on shop safety and speaking up, Show and Tell, Gary Coyne’s verdict on a $37.50 Harbor Freight electric plane, a Member Spotlight on John Fisher, and a fresh batch of tips and videos from the web.
